No, this is not the plot of "She's All That." (what a cinematic gem).
I have made a bet with Timothy.
And the bet is...
if I lose (and keep off) 15 pounds by December 31, 2008, Tim has to quit smoking.
So. I currently weight 163 pounds. that's right. I do. according to most bmi indexes, i am slightly overweight for my height and while Jess has clarified that there is no such thing as "big boned," i am built like a football player and not a runner. lots of muscle that is great for jumping or quick spurts of energy rather than those long lean distance runners have---that said, I'm giving myself a year so that i do not lose muscle.
also, i must say the main reason i am concerned with the number of pounds to lose is because i read that women that are at risk for breast cancer (my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003? i think that's the right year) put themselves at greater risk by gaining 5 pounds a year, which is pretty much what i've done since highschool---that's thirty pounds in 7 years that were not really needed.
so basically what i'm saying is...i need some suggestons here. any help. any help at all. i am not known for my will power.

I'm sure you don't eat out a lot, but eat out less! Food from restaurants is unbelievably bad for you because they don't have to publish nutrition facts.
I think this is a great deal you guys got going on. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you out!
Tip #1. Severely limit beer, juice and soda (of course if you dropped those entirely that would be the ideal). Drink water instead! Mother nature intended it to be this way :)
hi ruth.
If you can get hold of Anita Bean's "Fitness on a plate" then do so. Ii's packed with ideas. Get down to the gym and do some weight training and then on alternate days go jogging and make sure you do at least 25 minutes worth too.
Personally, I don't think you look overweight
Ruth & Tim: now with less cancer!
I'm so on your side with this- it's a fabulous idea.
