last night tim and i decided to skip a halloween party and have a drink with our friend paul. we headed down to the corner bar and talked music and professional aspirations. we watched paul win the prize for SLOWEST BEER DRINKER EVER. and then we headed home.
but oh! i saw the golden lion, the gay bar just down the street from us. and wow, it pulled us in. paul had never been to the GOLDEN LION, even though it's been three blocks away for three years! so we headed in and saw that lucky us, there was a drag show. there were only about 30 people total in the bar, and 5 were drag queens (and one was gay man that just got up and lipsynced, no drag). but that was not the first interesting moment. there were many more to follow.
1. tim seemed confident and comfortable. I think bringing a skinny guy friend along to a gay bar is helpful for good looking straight alpha males.
2. i talked to a nice young man dressed as a roman soldier. no one else was dressed up. he's all, "everyone thinks i'm crazy! but, you know, it's halloween! MAN!" i offered consolation and advice on getting the plastic breast plate to stop rubbing against his adams apple.
3. paul impressed tim and i by accepting our dollars and tipping the performers. tim gave him plenty of advice, and we all reminisced on our magical night with mai and kaye at the same bar last year, when tim did all the tipping, and the mc was so drunk she smashed her drink on the dance floor.
4. the whole drag performance was benefitting a local charity, and at one point they pulled a man (not a performer) named barry out of the crowd and accepted money for him to take his shirt off. some people offered money for him to keep it ON. then barry removed both his shirt and pants. SPARKLE UNDERWEAR that was acutally quite modest.
5. tim continued to talk to lots of people and the bartender bought him a drink. the mc told him he was "REALLY cute," not just cute, as tim pointed out later.
6. finally, the last number. the mc takes the stage, wearing a large sparkly shirt dress. he takes off his wig. whooa!
7. he starts doing jumping jacks! whooooaaa!
8. he takes off his dress and completes the number in a body stocking! WHOooooOOAAAA!
great fun. SOOO worth not going to the halloween party wearing tim's bear mask. well, off to breakfast and market shopping with mags, and then a halloween show tonight to see tim's friend's band, eclipse, and my good friend anna, who i have seen ONCE since being back. any advice for me on a costume?
i love this time of year.

Happy Halloween!
What is your costume?
Aaron and I are as usual not celebrating it. Unless of course you count sitting on the couch and eating "fun size" boxes of junior mints celebrating.
