I'm bussing back to Chicago after spending 2.5 glorious days in Madison, Wisconsin. So many things happened---driving, eating, Veronica Mars, jousting, painting--- and I feel ever so relaxed.
Last night Liz took me to a friend's birthday party where I got to watch two episodes of Star Trek (The Trouble with Tribbles and the one where Spock is engaged) and got to spend a nice time chatting with the birthday boy, who was turning 30.
So, I say while shuffling cards repeatedly, is there anything you really wanted to accomplish by the time you were 30 that didn't get done?
Uh, yeah, he said.Marriage, children, financial stability. Yeah, so just everything. Ha ha ha.
Yes, I could have phrased that a bit better, but it's something I've thought a bit about lately. Friends and brothers are buying their first home and last weekend we went to a Flag Day party where someone our age brought their baby. Several of Tim's friends are daddy's, although just as many are single. A couple of them have two whole children already. We, and by that, I mean only me, have always thought that we would start moving toward those grown-up life changing decisions in the next few years after graduate school. So...is that now?
Basically what I'm saying is that there are a handful of things I've assumed I would accomplish before 30 without even having to try:
1. Have children
2. Buy a two story home
3. Work in an office, not a cube
4. Live closer to family
5. Have tons of friends living in the same town as me
6. Own a piano
Well, I do own a piano, but I kinda put that in at the last minute to make me feel better. But as I ride home on my friendly Megabus for just $17.50, I'm thinking of few more things I'd like to focus on in the next two years and 71 days:
1. Help Tim stop smoking
2. Train for and complete a mini-triathlon
3. Write enough songs to start a band called either "White Snack" or "Tiny Cats"
4. Play music/sing on a stage again
5. Make more friends
6. See Grampa Mische, visit my family farm
7. Be a god parent
8. Take a trip to the south
9. See an indie rock show in Chicago
10. Find a worthy volunteer gig for weekends
Some are more doable than others, and one is actually totally out of my hands.being married, I'm one ahead of this weekend's birthday boy in the marriage/children/financial stability poll.
So...I WIN!

Don't worry kiddo, you still have a long time until you turn 30!
Your goal list sounds like a good one, 3&4 sound particularly exciting!
Side note: the word verification for this comment is "nonpr". Quite the opposite of the truth ay?
Lol @ #7... hint, hint?! Hilarious!
White Snack is one of the best band names you've come up with.
my friend liz, who i was visiting, meant to write "white snake" on her friend's denim shorts for a 80s party and accidently wrote "white snack." apparently, this also saved her friend from being involved in fisticuffs with another young woman at taco bell later that same evening---she was laughing too hard to persue the altercation further.
also, friend james thought "fresh step" was a good band name, but i thought that was more like a mo-town band name.
